Yesterday, I had a unique opportunity to observe a case of 3rd nerve palsy in a patient with known neuro-behçet’s disease. This was particularly significant as it was my first time seeing a patient with 3rd nerve palsy—a condition with an annual incidence of approximately 4 per 100,000 individuals.
We often read about such cases in textbooks and watch examination findings from youtube, but observing a specialist examining and evaluating the patient and pointing out the positive findings is the rarest thing. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to neurology specialist registrar Dr. FV, for showing me this case and meticulously explaining the intricacies involved. Such experiences are invaluable in our continuous medical education journey. His patience, clarity, and enthusiasm made this an invaluable learning experience—one that reinforces the irreplaceable value of bedside teaching in medical education.
Last night on my way back home, I was looking up in the internet on this topic and came across this amazing video by Professor Andrew G. Lee discussing 3rd nerve palsy, which provided valuable perspectives on the topic.
For those interested in the detailed clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of neurological involvement in Behçet’s syndrome, I recommend the comprehensive review by Desmond Patrick Kidd.
